Carol Anne Petitt (nee Collins) 79 of Margate City, passed away peacefully Monday, October 22, 2018, surrounded by her family. Carol was the loving wife of the late Edward "Ted" Petitt. She was also predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Veronica Collins. Carol was born and raised in Atlantic City, where she attended Our Lady Star of the Sea and Holy Spirit High School. It was at Holy Spirit that she met the love of her life, Ted. Carol and Ted, high school sweethearts, both went on to graduate from Glassboro State College. Soon after graduation, they married and started their family. Carol took great pride in being a mother and was especially proud of their six children. Carol began her teaching career in Margate. After taking several years off to raise her children, she returned to teaching at Charles L. Spragg School in Egg Harbor City. She was proud to be named Teacher of the Year in 1992. Carol spent many happy years there and formed close friendships. After her retirement, she enjoyed getting together with her former colleagues, meeting for lunch and other special occasions. Carol enjoyed going to the casinos, taking cruises to tropical destinations, spending time on the beach with friends and family, taking family trips to Florida, playing games such as Scrabble, Yahtzee and Backgammon, and dining out with friends. Most of all, Carol loved spending time with her family and hosting get-togethers at her home in Margate, where she was famous for her delicious spaghetti and meatballs. Carol is survived by her six children: Tracy Barth (Ken) of Margate, Karen Petitt-Bohrer (Jeff) of Linwood, Edward "Ted" Petitt (Nina) of Chatham, Lisa Mullarkey (John) of Hillsborough, Gregory Petitt (Bonnie) of Linwood, and Christopher Petitt (Christina) of Bronx, NY and 14 grandchildren: Zachary, Alexandra, Caroline, Elizabeth, Matthew, Haley, Addison, Sarah, Matthew, Sam, Julia, Jack, Alexander, and Aurelia. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers: Mary Becker (Michael) of Margate, Barbara Safer (Bob) of Margate, Thomas Collins (Mimi) of Margate, and Bob Collins (Nancy) of Egg Harbor Township. Additionally, she is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated for Carol Petitt 11:00am Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Holy Trinity Parish, St. James Church, at 6415 Atlantic Avenue in Ventnor. The Celebration of her life will begin with visitation from 9:30 to 11:00 am at the church. The Rite of Committal will be offered at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing, following Mass. Arrangements by the Gormley Funeral Home LLC, Atlantic City.
