Harvey C. Cocozza, Sr. passed away on March 7, 2023 after a brief illness. Harvey, the eighth of fourteen children, was born on March 28, 1945 to Peter & Nellie (Smallwood) Cocozza in Atlantic City. Harvey attended St. Michael's Grammar School and graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1964, becoming the first in his family to graduate. Harvey enlisted in the US Navy and served two tours in Vietnam and was also stationed in Kodiak, Alaska as a Navy SeaBee. He was honorably discharged in 1968 and returned to his roots in the Ducktown area of Atlantic City. After returning from serving his country, Harvey worked with several local companies; John Woerner Plumbing & Heating (1970s), Shore Points Detective Agency (1980s), Waterfront Restaurant in Somers Point (1990s) and ended his career as President of Cocozza Brothers Roofing Company in Atlantic City. In Harvey's retirement he spent his time walking the boards and reading the latest novels seated on a boardwalk bench or in his car parked overlooking the bay. Harvey is survived by his son Harvey C. Cocozza, Jr. (Dawn) and his three granddaughters, Emily, Cora and Mia. They were the loves of his life. Harvey was predeceased by parents Peter Sr. & Nellie, brothers Peter Jr., Albert, Nicholas, Carl, John, Joseph, & James. Sisters Dolores Anderson (Raymond), Geraldine Suarez (Richard), Marie Sauerbrey (Harry) and Rosalie Yee (Sam). He is survived by his sister Martha Schromsky (Barry), and brother Raymond Cocozza (Anna). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and his former wife, the mother of his only son, Pat Cocozza. A gathering will be held on Tuesday March 14, 2023 from 10:00am-12:00pm, with a service to begin at 12:00pm at Gormley Funeral Home LLC, 2706 Atlantic Avenue, Atlantic City, NJ 08401. Burial will immediately follow at Atlantic City/Greenwood Cemetery in Pleasantville, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a charity Harvey contributed to regularly, at MEMORIAL PROCESSING, ST.
