Obituary of Carmella A. Baxter

Please share a memory of Carmella to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carmella A. Baxter (nee Carcerano) 83 of Atlantic City, NJ, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on January 15, 2023. Carmella was born in Atlantic City on May 10, 1939 where she resided her entire life. She was a graduate of Holy Spirit High School and then worked as a telephone operator at Verizon for many years. Carmella was a cheerleading coach for the A.C. Hurricanes alongside her lifelong best friend Jessie Higbee. She could always be found volunteering in the concession stands for various sports played by her daughter Theresa, and her son Billy. The best day of Carm's life was the day she fell for her one and only lifelong love, Sonny. They were married for 63 years and together shared a life blessed with love, laughter, and family. Nan found great pride and joy in the loving relationships she shared with her three grandsons, Nick, Jack and Billy. Her kindness, big heart, beautiful smile, great sense of humor and involvement in all our lives will be forever missed. Carmella is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Mildred (Yocum) Carcerano and her sister Trudy Connell. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Bill "Sonny" Baxter; daughter Theresa Baxter; son Bill Baxter, Jr.; daughter in-law Sharon Baxter; grandsons Nick, Jack and Billy Baxter; and her brother-in-law John Specht and wife Yvonne. Our family would like to thank AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center 6 Harmony and ICU staff for their incredible care and kindness. We are forever grateful. Honoring Carmella's request, a private burial with immediate family was held at Holy Cross Cemetery. Arrangements by the Gormley Funeral Home LLC/AC (gormleyfuneralhomellc.com).
