Obituary of Marcella C. Nicholes

Marcella (Marcy) C. (nee Freda) – 88 of Absecon, NJ, after a courageous battle with cancer for over 40 years passed away peacefully with loving family and friends by her side on January 6, 2023. Marcy was born in Philadelphia; she graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1953. Marcy worked for Pantry Pride/Food Fair for over thirty years and upon retiring served as president of the retirees club for six years. Following retirement from Food Fair, she continued working as a security guard at Boardwalk Hall and volunteering for various events and charities including Star of the Sea Church and Our Lady's Residence. She is a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, where she served as Vice President, and a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Marcy enjoyed traveling, bingo, casinos, Sudoku but most of all SPORTS! When it came to the Phillies or the Eagles, there wasn't a player she didn't know, or a game she couldn't remember. Celebrating her 85th birthday at a Phillies game with family and a hug & kiss from the Philly Fanatic was at the top of her fondest memories. Marcy was a kind, and loyal friend, a "GG" with a beautiful smile who adored her family. She will be sorely missed. Predeceased by her husband Harry, stepson Harry W.; Parents, Alexander & Angelina Freda (DiGenova); Sister Carmella and Brother Anthony. She leaves behind loving family and friends: Daughter Inlaw, Marie Nicholes, Grandchildren Christopher and Erica Nicholes; Great Grandchildren Emilia and William Nicholes; Extended family, Joe & Bobbie Ann Festa, Nicholas & Darlene Dabbenigno, Rick & Georgeann Siano, Jane & Paul Alverez, Joe & Sharon Festa, and friend, Carolyn Johnson; Nieces and Nephews Joanne Gallagher, Linda Gale Vanderhoff, and Keith Leuci. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated for Marcella Nicholas 11:30am Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Elizabeth Ann Seton Church 591 New Jersey Avenue, Absecon, NJ. Visitation will begin at 10:00am at the Church. Following Mass the Rite of Committal will be offered at Laurel Memorial Park Cemetery off Tilton Road opposite the Tech Center In Lieu of flowers, the family request donations in Marcy's memory to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 591 New Jersey Avenue, Absecon, NJ 08201.
