We are so very, very sorry to hear of Sylvia’s passing. We knew her through her friendship with our mother, Mary Ellen Doughty. Praying for strength for her family during this very sad time. Susan, Christine and Edward Doughty.

Sylvia our angel in life may now find peace in death with our lord. Sylvia came into my life in 1990 and gave me lessons in Piano, voice, saxophone, and clarinet. In 1999 I began attending Sunday mass with her at St. Nicholas and she helped me become Catholic and was my confirmation sponsor in 2000. For 11 years she helped raised me and my sister Elizabeth as musicians and gave us values as Christians that we will never forget. She never missed one opportunity to give a recital for the residents of Our Lady’s Residence in Pleasantville, nor did she ever miss an opportunity to feed a hungry mouth whether it was a stranger on the street or a student in her home. She always told me Christ was knocking at the door and she had the picture to prove it which she cherished. Many fond memories we all have of spending time with her and Kennie, singing and playing piano, turning pages for her at the organ at St. Nicholas and singing duets at mass with her on Sunday in the choir loft. Her soul was bright, her humility eternal, and her love and care endless. 93 years was not long enough. Your love will carry us all to the end of time. The angels are singing “O little town of Bethlehem” for you now, Sylvia. God Speed and God Bless.

Sylvia taught piano to my brother and I for 8 years. We both have fond memories of spending time with her and Kenny. She was a beautiful soul and had a positive influence on both of us. She will be missed by all that had the luck to have known and loved her. -Elizabeth Bush (Wilson)
