GERHARDT, EDWARD P. 60, of Margate, NJ died September 23, 2017.
A graduate of Stockton University, Ed earned his bachelor's degree in English Literature. He worked many years in the health spas of the Atlantic City casinos and finally worked as an aquatics instructor at the Jewish Community Center in Margate. He was the self-proclaimed "greatest body surfer on Absecon Island," a lifelong poet, and many women will attest to Ed "having the best legs in South Jersey." He could converse about music, movies, philosophy, exercise, eating right—just about anything. Grandson Michael described him best: "Pops made everything fun." We, his family and friends, will miss him everyday.
Ed is predeceased by his parents William and Alice Gerhardt and his infant son William Michael. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marilyn, daughter Diane (Brian) Shapiro, son Richard Gerhardt, four loving grandchildren, Ryan and Michael Shapiro, William and Olive Gerhardt, siblings Dr. Jill Gerhardt, William (Heidi) Gerhardt, Rev. Dr. Michael (Janet) Gerhardt, Joy (Richard) Dawson, sister-in-law Karen Schumacher, brothers-in-law James and Thomas Schumacher and Theodore (Lena) Costa, his Aunt Shirley Kreiss, many loving and so special nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, cousins, and many wonderful friends.
