Obituary of Billie A. Herbert

Please share a memory of Billie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
HERBERT, BILLIE ANN 67, of Atlantic City, passed away Sunday at home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Billie Ann was born and raised in the Chelsea Heights section of Atlantic City. As a teenager, Billie Ann modeled and was crowned Miss Atlantic City Beach Patrol. She was continuously employed throughout the resort area prior to gaming's arrival to Atlantic City. She was a "day one" cocktail server at Resorts International where she was employed for 31 years. Billie Ann was an outspoken advocate for women's rights in the workplace. She picketed and eventually pioneered maternity uniforms to be provided for pregnant servers at Resorts and other casinos. Resorts opened many opportunities for Billie Ann; she was chosen to be in many marketing campaigns, including a billboard, movie appearances and a featured model. With a stronger work ethic than most, Billie was also simultaneously building her real estate portfolio where she was able to provide affordable housing to dozens of families throughout Atlantic City. Her passion and knowledge in this field motivated her sons to follow in her footsteps. Billie Ann was predeceased by her parents Virginia and William Gorey and her little sister, Nancy Gorey. She was the proud mother of three sons, whom she was always bragging about: Freddy Cress, Jimmy Herbert, wife Laura, Albert Herbert, wife Nisha, and her lifelong friend Jim Herbert, Sr. whom she adored. But, Billie Ann's whole world changed when her granddaughter Olivia was born. They spent endless hours walking the beach, crafting, and listening to music together. As an amazing grandmother deserves, she was also blessed with two more granddaughters, Summer and Emily. The three girls and their Memom, gardened, shopped, and loved discussing beauty tips. Billie Ann's happiest times were being surrounded by her family. She was loved by many and will be missed by all she helped along the way. A Mass of Christian Burial was Celebrated for Billie Ann Herbert 10:30am Friday, April 28, 2023 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church 2651 Atlantic Avenue, Atlantic City, NJ. The Rite of Committal was offered at the Greenwood Cemetery, Washington Avenue Pleasantville, following Mass. Because of the amazing care and support she received at University of Penn's Medical Team, in lieu of flowers, please donate in Billie Ann's honor to: Penn Medicine Development Attn: Thomas White 3535 Market Street, Suite 750 Philadelphia, PA 19104 215-898-0578 UPHSgift@upenn.edu Arrangements by the Gormley Funeral Home LLC/AC (gormleyfuneralhomellc.com)
